What is I.C.I.E. On Line? I.C.I.E. is a software application that can be downloaded directly to each computer interfacing with the Internet. I.C.I.E. is a simple and effective method of reporting suspicious, dangerous, or illegal activity discovered on the Internet to the appropriate authority. I.C.I.E.'s reporting mechanism can provide law enforcement or other authorities enough information to determine what action, if any, needs to be taken. I.C.I.E. stands for In Case of Internet Emergency.
How does I.C.I.E. work? After installation, ICIE places a button on the tool bar of your Internet Explorer. When the user clicks the ICIE button, the current web page is automatically analyzed for topics that may be harmful to the community. If a certain threshold (based on keywords or terms reviewed) is found, I.C.I.E. sends out alerts to the proper authorities. The topics are selected by legal authorities regulated by zip codes.
